Best known for his magnificent publication of Sir William Hamilton's Vases in 1766, d'Hancarville also published two pornographic works with illustrations based upon antique gems: Veneres et Priapi ut observantur in gemmis antiquis (c. 1775), later reissued as Monumens de la vie privée des douze Cézars, 1780, and this work, its companion volume. Vinet 1633 (for the 1780 edition); not in Cicognara.
